Every year, The Long Night of Science opens a large number of Berlin’s scientific institutions and exhibits to the public for one night. During this year’s event on June 22, the IMPRINT network presented its arts project Clothed with Protection as part of an exhibition hosted by the Charité’s Center for Global Health. The displays focused on a variety of topics related to vaccines in pregnancy, digital health and pandemics.

Clothed with Protection is an arts project by Luke Jerram in collaboration with IMPRINT Co-Director Dr Chrissie Jones, funded by the IMPRINT network. The project commissioned ten fashion designers from Kampala, Uganda, to create clothing that highlights the importance of vaccination in pregnancy in Africa. The clothes were initially presented as part of a fashion show and community event in Kampala and later moved to museum exhibitions throughout the UK. The journey of this project was documented in a film which, together with five of the outfits created by the designers, was included in the Charité’s exhibit. In addition to highlighting the designer’s intricate work and creativity in promoting vaccination in pregnancy, the event also provided viewers with the opportunity to learn more about the significance of maternal and neonatal immunisation in a larger context.
