IMPRINT recently organised two expert-led webinars focused on science communication and grant writing, tailored to the needs of the network’s diverse research community. The courses, delivered by Scriptoria, brought together 45 members from across the network who sought to build essential skills in sharing research and securing funding for future research projects.
Securing research funding through effective grant writing
The first webinar, held on 24 and 26 June 2025, focused on grant writing for early- to mid-career researchers who are aiming to secure fellowships and research funding. The course offered an in-depth introduction to crafting persuasive proposals, understanding the review process, and managing collaborative writing. Participants learned to develop a strong research vision, structure a coherent project plan, and highlight their expertise through narrative CVs. Through combining theory with real-life examples and interactive exercises, these sessions helped attendees refine their ideas and writing for greater impact.
Communicating complex information to a wider audience
The second webinar, held on 8 and 10 July 2025, was designed to help researchers convey their work effectively to non-specialist audiences. Through a blend of presentations, group discussions, and hands-on exercises, participants learned to identify target audiences, set clear communication goals, and tailor content for various platforms, including newsletters, websites, and social media. By the end of the course, attendees had refined their skills in adapting complex scientific information for general audiences, learned how to write compelling stories and how to produce more effective content for digital channels.
Together, these two webinars provided IMPRINT members with the chance to sharpen their skills in sharing their research with wider audiences and strengthened their ability to secure research funding to advance their scientific goals.
