IMPRINT recently supported a new CIVIS course on “Maternal and Neonatal Vaccination”, designed for Master’s and PhD students with an interest in global health. This course was organised as a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) – an Erasmus+ mobility format that combines online teaching with a short in-person training component, enabling students from around the world to learn alongside their peers and professors. The programme offered participants a comprehensive overview of the scientific and public health principles guiding immunisation strategies for pregnant women and infants and addressed key challenges and opportunities in the field.

From March to May 2025, 27 students took part in twelve virtual sessions covering six thematic modules. Led by experts from various European and African institutions, these sessions addressed topics including the burden of disease and public health, vaccination platforms, immunobiology, clinical trial design, safety and ethics, and communication strategies for building vaccine confidence.

After completing these online sessions, the programme continued in July 2025 with an in-person component in Johannesburg, South Africa. This part of the course offered both theoretical and practical training on the course's themes and enabled students to see their knowledge applied in real-world contexts. By experiencing real-world clinical and research environments, participants gained valuable insights in the conception, design, and conduct of research in maternal and neonatal vaccination.
